Who is the strongest opponent to ICE?
That seems to be the issue that two leftwing candidates for the 9th congressional district Democratic Party nomination to replace Jan Schakowsky will win the day next March.
Or, maybe, it’s just them trying to raise their name identification.
Here are the plethora of candidates from Ballotpedia:
Standing out from the crowd enough to win the race with many twenty percent of the vote is the goal.
The Daily Northwestern reports three candidates were demonstrating at the Broadview ICE facility:
“Congressional candidates Mayor Daniel Biss, Kat Abughazaleh and Bushra Amiwala were teargassed at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview, Illinois, on Friday. “
From Axiois:
“Driving the news: Evanston mayor and 9th District congressional candidate Daniel Biss was among the protesters injured.
“What they’re saying: “I just couldn’t breathe at all,” Biss tells Axios. “I found myself on the ground, desperately trying to get air.”
“Zoom in: Biss, a Democrat who has made attending protests in Bridgeview part of his congressional campaign, says ICE agents and other federal law enforcement wearing military fatigues have been using “intimidation” tactics like positioning snipers on the building and taking photos of the protesters.
- “It was a very clear, cartoonish show of force and brutality and dominance,” Biss tells Axios. “They didn’t need to tear gas us. They were doing it to demonstrate that there is no room for dissent in this country right now. They’re trying to scare people out of standing up, and we’re not going to be intimidated.”

“The other side: The Department of Homeland Security was quick to push back. ‘These desperate politicians want their 15 minutes of fame and they’re willing to do it off the backs of our law enforcement’ DHS assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin said on Fox News.“
Fond on X is a takedown of Kat

Kat is wearing a mask made more visible in the Not the Bee below.
It even made Newsweek.
“‘First off they shot pepper balls to the ground, and then said, ‘\”Your First Amendment rights are on the sidewalk,” Abughazaleh told Newsweek on Friday afternoon. ‘And then when we tried to get in the way of the van, they picked us up or dragged us away, for some people, shoved people. I was picked up and thrown.'”

Not the Bee has footage of the takedown, plus the slashing of a tire on an arriving ICE vehicle.
