REPEAT WINDOW PEEPER SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR MARENGO OFFENSE
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese announces that on August 10, 2026, Dustin D. Hanabarger, of Marengo, Illinois, was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after entering a plea of guilty to Disorderly Conduct, a class 4 felony.
The charge stemmed from an incident in which Hanabarger knowingly peered into the window of a Marengo apartment on May 31, 2025.
Significantly, this was not Hanabarger’s first conviction for this type of conduct.
He had previously been found guilty of three separate window-peeping offenses.
His most recent prior offense resulted in a three-year prison sentence imposed on August 17, 2023.
Because of his prior criminal history, he was eligible for extended-term sentencing, allowing the State’s Attorney’s office to obtain a sentence in excess of the maximum three years for a class 4 felony.
“This was not an isolated lapse in judgment.
“This defendant has repeatedly engaged in conduct that invades the privacy and sense of security people have every right to expect inside their own homes,” State’s Attorney Freese said.
“Prior convictions and even a previous prison sentence did not deter him.
“This five-year sentence recognizes the seriousness of that repeated behavior and sends a clear message that continued criminal conduct will result in increasingly serious consequences.”
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office thanks Sgt. Adam Boyce of the Marengo Police Department for his investigation of this case and the victim for her courage throughout the pendency of this case.
