August 6, 2026
On August 5, at about 1:00 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the Crystal Lake Police Department, and the Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to a crash involving a car and an electric bike on Walkup Road and Dvorak Drive in unincorporated Crystal Lake.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Super73 (Class II) electric bicycle was traveling westbound near Dvorak Drive and a 2017 Ford C-Max was traveling northbound on Walkup Road.
For unknown reasons, the bicycle failed to yield to the Ford while crossing the roadway and the collision occurred.
The driver of the electric bicycle, a fifteen-year-old juvenile, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital and then airlifted to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
The child remains in serious condition.
The driver of the Ford, a sixty-six-year-old woman from Crystal Lake, is uninjured and cooperating fully with the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash nvestigation Unit.

Motor Vehicle Accident Vehicle vs. E-Bike
At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to the intersection of Walkup Road and Dvorak Road for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a passenger vehicle and an e-bike.
Fire Rescue crews arrived on scene within four minutes and found one vehicle and the injured e-bike rider in the roadway.
Due to the severity of the patient’s injuries, a LifeNet medical helicopter was requested.
Because of the extended estimated arrival time for the aircraft, the patient, who is a minor, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern McHenry Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department provided emergency medical care and secured the scene before turning the incident over to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, which is conducting the crash investigation.
No additional information is available at this time. Any inquiries regarding the cause of the crash or the ongoing investigation should be directed to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
