Lake in the Hills supports Illinois Speed Awareness Day
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Speeding is involved in nearly half of all motor vehicle fatalities, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
Today (July 22) police officers in Lake in the Hills and across the state are joining forces to combat speeding and make all roads safer on “Illinois Speed Awareness Day.”
The effort is led by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police with the support of IDOT, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and more than 300 state, county and local law enforcement agencies. Drivers should expect to see increased patrols looking for speeders and other traffic violations.
“Speeding is a choice that puts everyone at risk,” said Lake in the Hills Police Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees local enforcement programs.
“It reduces a driver’s ability to avoid obstacles and greatly increases stopping distance while leading to more severe injuries in a crash. We urge drivers to make the safe choice and slow down.”
Today’s speeding education and enforcement campaign to help save lives is part of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police “Speeding Catches Up with You” campaign.
It also supports IDOT’s broader “It’s Not a Game” media campaign.
