From a Friend of McHenry County Blog:
As a constituent (only) I feel the supervisor took to the streets in an effort to slander the Highway Commissioner.
The supervisor, who is also the Highway District Treasurer, did not support the Road District and failed his job to work with the highway commissioner to provide the necessary documents and information that is needed to turn in an accurate budget.
The Board of Trustees approved a budget they put together, which is illegal.
A few Trustees over stepped their “authority”.
Violating several laws.
No one polled the rest of the Road District areas to see how the commissioner is doing, again all 1 sided to smear the highway commissioner.
The statements made by some of the residents were bold face lies.
Even one of the residents who bashed the commissioner didn’t even know who it was and stated the commissioner wasn’t there.
He didn’t even know the commissioner.
Sounds like a smear campaign from my view.
The facts are the county is still unsure whose jurisdiction the area falls in.
At the same time, those same residents clearly stated that a former commissioner, who lived in the area, may have used road district funds for their benefit by doing work on the roads so they, that commissioner could drive the roads.
Misappropriation of tax dollars?
Possibly.
What needs to happen is a real sit down, the supervisor, the commissioner and with a participant who has nothing to do with either side.
Gather all the information, make an informed decision and tell the damn truth.
The people deserve real numbers not inflated to make one side look bad, because in the end the Township looks bad.
