From State Senator Chris Balkema:
While Other States Cut Taxes, Illinois Falls Behind
Families across the country are getting tax relief as states continue reducing their income tax burdens.
This year alone, 13 states
- Arkansas,
- Georgia,
- Indiana,
- Kentucky,
- Mississippi,
- Montana,
- Nebraska,
- North Carolina,
- Ohio,
- Oklahoma,
- South Carolina,
- Utah,
- West Virginia
have enacted income tax cuts, continuing a trend of making their states more competitive for workers, families, and businesses.
Meanwhile, Illinois residents continue to face one of the highest overall tax burdens in the nation.
At a time when neighboring states are working to attract residents and investment, Illinois must take a serious look at policies that encourage economic growth and allow families to keep more of their hard-earned money.
As lawmakers, we should be focused on creating an environment where businesses can grow, jobs can be created, and families can thrive. Tax relief should be part of that conversation.
