I live in the Algonquin Hills neighborhood off Rte 31 and Cary Rd in Algonquin.
For the past few months, we’ve been locked in a pretty wild situation between our residents and the Road Commissioner, Ms. Sandberg.
To make a very long story someone shorter, in 2024 the McHenry County DOT conducted an audit of all the roads in the non-dedicated roads program in McHenry County.
The findings of that audit showed that many miles of roads previously considered non-dedicated were actually under the jurisdiction of various townships and villages around the County.
In my case, it was found that our roads are legally under the Algonquin Township Road District’s jurisdiction.
This follows decades of being told our roads were “private” and our responsibility alone to maintain.
However, getting the road district to formally acknowledge the County’s findings has been anything but easy.
I’ve been to countless County board meetings, Transportation Committee meetings, Township board meetings, as well as meeting directly with the road commissioner and her very expensive attorney.
There is an upcoming Road District budget hearing on Monday June 29th at the Township. Myself and quite a few constituents will be in attendance to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting.
