From the campaign of Collin Corbett:

Just the Third Time in the Last 86 Years an Independent Will Be on the Ballot for Illinois Governor

SPRINGFIELD, IL — After completing three long days of record exams at the State Board of Elections in Springfield, Collin Corbett and Carolyn Schofield’s campaign has secured 27,323 valid signatures, making history as just the third Independent candidate for Illinois Governor in the last 86 years, and the first serious third party or Independent candidate since 1912.

The campaign released the following statement from Collin:

“Perennial candidate Darren Bailey’s campaign did whatever they could to keep us off the ballot, but they can’t stop our common sense movement of everyday people.

To get on the ballot in this rigged system, we needed five times the number of signatures as the two political parties, and we faced far stricter rules on who could circulate, but that didn’t stop us from making history.

“Now, Independents, disaffected Republican and Democratic voters, and Illinoisans who haven’t voted in years will have a candidate to vote for in November.

“To those tired of our broken system and frustrated with politicians playing partisan games instead of making people’s lives better, and to those who no longer have a political home as both parties keep moving further to the extremes, you have a home in our Independent movement. Together, we will finally make the mainstream the majority in our politics.

“Thank you to the Illinois State Board of Elections employees for your hard work and impartiality through this process. And thank you to our and Darren Bailey’s supporters for conducting yourselves professionally during the records exam.”
