McHenry County Coroner’s Office Investigating Death of 7-Year-Old Male
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein announced that the McHenry County Coroner’s Office was notified by Northwestern Huntley Hospital at around 7:00 p.m. on June 17, 2026, regarding the death of a 7-year-old male.
The child was transported from Lake In The Hills to Northwestern Medicine Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy was performed on June 11, 2026.
Preliminary findings show drowning as the cause of death.
Toxicology testing is currently pending.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office continues to work collaboratively with Lake In The Hills Police Department and Northwestern Huntley Hospital during this investigation.

7-year-old pronounced dead at hospital after being pulled from pond
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A 7-year-old child was pronounced dead at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital on
Wednesday evening, June 17th, after being found unresponsive in a neighborhood retention pond.
Lake in the Hills police officers responded to a report of a missing child on Steeplechase Way shortly before 6 p.m.
Wednesday.
The child had last been seen by family members a short time earlier.
During a search, an officer located the child unresponsive in a nearby retention pond.
The officer pulled the child from the water and immediately began life-saving efforts.
Paramedics from the Huntley Fire Protection District arrived minutes later and continued life-saving measures before
transporting the child to the hospital.
The incident is under investigation by the Lake in the Hills Police Department in coordination with the McHenry County
Coroner’s Office. Foul play is not suspected.
