Question to Corbett: Where’s the money?
Independent gubernatorial candidate Collin Corbett announced his candidacy in late April. Outlets such as Politico, The Illinoize, and McHenry County Blog reported it.
By May 1, Corbett had established a candidate committee called “Collin for Illinois.”
I periodically check the State Board of Elections website to see if there are any new A-1 filings.
An A-1 form is filed when a committee receives a donation of at least $1,000.
Obviously, this does not show the whole picture of how fundraising is going, but it at least gives an idea of how things are going with large donations.
It allows curious people to compare apples to apples.
Someone could look at the A-1 filings of Pritzker, Bailey, and Corbett and understand who is doing well and who is struggling.
When Corbett first got into the race, the thing I kept hearing from people promoting him was that he would be competitive with Bailey and perhaps raise even more than Bailey.
They said this was one of the reasons people should take Corbett seriously.
They said Corbett had already locked up about 1 million dollars.
Naturally, political observers would keep their eyes open to see whether Corbett would make good of that or whether his team was bluffing.
As I write this on June 11, it appears to have been a bluff.
The first A-1 was filed on May 15.
It was a total of $40,000 that came from four different sources.
That looked like a promising start but then there were no updates, no more A-1 filings.
People started questioning whether Corbett’s team had been honest about how good they are at fundraising.
Then on June 10 the second A-1 filing came in.
This one showed $2,000 total — two donations of $1,000.
One of the donors listed in the new A-1 report was also in the previous A-1 report.
That means there have been just five sources that have given Corbett at least $1,000.
Darren Bailey showed an A-1 filing on June 8 of $12,000, another on June 9 for a little over $7,239, and another on June 10 for just over $35,090 (including a $25,000 donation from former McHenry County resident Gary Rabine).
So, in the past four days, Bailey has reported A-1s totaling over $54,329.
Between May 16 and today, Corbett reported $2,000.

Corbett was supposed to be competitive with Bailey.
He is getting blown out of the water by Bailey.
Corbett was supposed to have $1,000,000.
His committee has been active since May 1 but has only shown $42,000 raised.
There are under 21 weeks left until the election and in the past 3 weeks he has only raised $2,000 according to A-1 reports.
Corbett was supposed to be a fundraising wizard. Political observers said, “Show me the money.”
Corbett has not executed.
