Poll Shows 90% of Hoffman Estates Residents Oppose Additional Data Center

Independent Candidate for Governor Collin Corbett Points to Rising Energy Costs and Unchecked Data Center Growth Under Pritzker That Has Soured Illinoisans’ Desire for More in Their Community

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A new poll, commissioned by Independent candidate for Governor Collin Corbett and provided for free on behalf of Hoffman Estates residents, reveals that 90% of residents are opposed to a third data center in their village, including an overwhelming 86% who are very opposed.

Collin presented the poll results at the Hoffman Estates Plan Commission as it met on Wednesday night to discuss rezoning land to allow for a third data center campus in Hoffman Estates.

All demographics are nearly unanimous in opposition, especially young people who are 95% opposed and females who are 94% opposed.

Opposition is bi-partisan: 92% of Democrats are opposed, 89% of Republicans are opposed, and 89% of Independents are opposed.

After the meeting, Collin said, “Under JB Pritzker, who has given over $1 billion in tax incentives to data centers, Illinois rushed to build as many data centers as possible, while failing to put safeguards in place to protect Illinoisans, our energy, and our water.

“This unchecked data center growth has caused energy prices to skyrocket for working families, small businesses, and manufacturers. Now, residents understandably don’t want more of them in their backyard.

“In the just-completed session, Springfield failed to put a pause on tax incentives for data centers and failed to put in place common sense regulations.

“Until strict regulations are put in place at the state level that ensure data centers pay all their energy costs, limit water usage, and contribute to a property tax relief fund for Illinoisans, we need to listen to our residents and taxpayers who overwhelmingly say no to more data centers.”
