From the campaign of Collin Corbett:
Collin Corbett Officially Files Petitions to Run for Governor as an Independent
SPRINGFIELD – Independent candidate for Governor Collin Corbett officially filed petitions today to appear on the November ballot alongside Lt. Governor candidate Carolyn Schofield.
“One thing was clear as we talked to voters getting petition signatures: people are fed up with our broken political system. They’re looking for something better. With the launch of our mainstream, common sense Independent movement, we’re going to give them hope,” Corbett said.
“Everyday Illinoisans feel stuck, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re going to make life more affordable, get Illinois growing again, and reform our broken system.”
Many voters were upset to learn that statewide Independent candidates must gather five times as many signatures as major party candidates and face stricter rules on petition circulators.
Though few were shocked, since it’s widely understood that the system is rigged in Illinois.
Despite this, the Independent ticket filed with 37,000 signatures.
The campaign has validated each signature and verified it filed with well above the required 25,000 valid signatures.
Collin explained: “We expect a challenge, because when you take on the broken political system, you have to expect it’s going to fight back.
“They’re going to throw everything at us to knock us off the ballot, but it won’t work. Illinoisans are ready to move beyond left vs right and start focusing on right vs wrong.”
Corbett will officially launch his campaign and Independent movement at a Wednesday morning press conference outside the former Arlington Park site, a potential future home of the Chicago Bears.
He will be joined by running mate Carolyn Schofield, campaign chairman Lou Sandoval, former president and CEO of Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and senior advisor Donna Johnson, Mayor of Libertyville. They will also host a free public kickoff event Wednesday evening from 5:30p-7:30p at the Schaumburg Marriott.
