From McHenry County:

Property Tax Bills Are in the Mail and Available for Online Payment

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – McHenry County property tax bills are in the mail and available for online viewing.

As of Friday, May 8, taxpayers will be able to make payments.

Taxpayers can check their bill online by visiting the Treasurer’s Office website at and selecting “Look Up/Pay Your Tax Bill” from the menu; people can pay their taxes online through this portal – installments this year are due June 9 and Sept. 9.

Taxpayers also can access the online portal by scanning the QR code on the upper right of their mailed tax bill.

This year, the Treasurer’s Office has expanded online payment options by offering the ability to pay via
digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Venmo.

PayPal Credit is also available to qualifying taxpayers who wish to stretch out their payments.

“Every year we have been unveiling new ways to make property taxes easier to pay and easier to
understand.

“With the rise of digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, we now offer taxpayers these payment options,” Treasurer Donna Kurtz said. “By accepting PayPal, taxpayers now have the option to assess whether to pay their property taxes in installments through PayPal Credit. Like other credit/debit card
options, taxpayers will need to contact digital wallet providers to apply and qualify. In doing so, I encourage all taxpayers paying with digital wallet to read the fine print.”

People who wish to pay their taxes online without fees should use eCheck – eCheck requires using one’s
account routing and account number which can be found on their paper check, or bank app on their phone.

Kurtz is encouraging people to sign up as well for the VIP Taxpayer program.

This allows property owners to get electronic reminders of due dates and to sign up to receive next year’s tax bill electronically.

To pay your property taxes electronically, visit the Treasurer’s website , and click on “Look Up/Pay Your Tax Bill.”

In addition to being able to sign up to receive your property tax bill electronically, taxpayers can now sign up for email and text reminders of installment due dates by clicking here.

Taxpayers also can pay by phone by calling 844-928-0420 and following the prompts in either English or
Spanish – be sure to write down the payment confirmation code so you have this for your records.

While paying with E-Check is free, payments via credit card, debit card and digital wallet include a 2.4%
convenience fee.

Taxpayers who wish to pay in person can do so by visiting the Treasurer’s Office at 2100 N. Seminary Ave.,
Woodstock, between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays and pay at the window or through the drive-thru
lanes.

The Treasurer’s Office accepts check, cash, and debit/credit card, and digital wallet payments.

In addition, the Treasurer’s Office has two secure 24-hour drop boxes, one walk-up and one drive-up.

Dropoff payments can be made by check or money order (no cash), made payable to the McHenry County Collector and placed in an envelope with the payment coupon.

Many local banks accept walk-in property tax payments.

A list of these participating McHenry County banks, and the communities where they are located, can be found by visiting the Treasurer’s website or by calling 815-334-4260. Keep in mind that credit and debit card payments are not accepted at these local banks – you must bring your tax bill or a copy of it, and there may be other procedures.

Finally, if you wish to pay by mail, send the payment (please do not send cash) along with the payment
coupon to: McHenry County Collector, PO Box 8730, Carol Stream, IL 60197-8730. If paying by check, please write your property parcel number (PIN) on it.

If you are mailing your bill within 5 days of the due date, be sure to mail it in person at the Post Office and ask for a postmark to ensure that it is marked appropriately to avoid any late penalty.
