Crystal Lake Grade School District parent Lee Sain signed off on a $115,000 settlement in a Federal lawsuit against District 47 for treatment of his son, an African American, in a 2023 incident involing a paper gun he had made for a class project in social studies.
The school district denies any culpability in the matter, which was filed at the end of 2024.
In addition to District 47, Angela Compere, now Assistant Principal at Glacier Ridge Elementary School, and Lundahl Principal Angela Carvell are listed as defendants, as is the Crystal Lake Police Department. The police department case is ongoing.
