From State Rep. Marty McLaughlin:
Rep. McLaughlin Slams Latest Energy Bill: “Illinois Families Can’t Afford Any More Expensive Help”
SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Martin McLaughlin (R-Barrington Hills) slammed lawmakers on the House floor this week criticizing yet another Democrat-backed energy bill that he says will increase utility costs for all Illinois families and businesses.
McLaughlin reminded his colleagues of the corrupt history of Democrat energy deals, pointing to the fact that former Speaker Mike Madigan and a top energy executive were recently sentenced to prison.
“Please, Democrats, stop ‘helping’ utility payers across the state of Illinois — they can’t afford any more of your expensive help,” said Rep. McLaughlin. “Ronald Reagan said it best: the scariest thing to hear from politicians is, ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’”
McLaughlin went on to say that while clean, green energy is a laudable goal, the policies Democrats are pushing are not bridging Illinois to next-generation technologies. Instead, he warned, “they’re cleaning all the green out of middle-class and lower-income families’ wallets.”
He also reminded the chamber that he had worked in a bipartisan manner on the last energy bill that protected Illinois nuclear plants and kept them open.
McLaughlin has consistently advocated for more nuclear and clean fossil fuel technologies as a bridge to move Illinois policy into the next generation — making energy more affordable for families and helping attract businesses to the state.
