At the last meeting of the Crystal Lake Park Board, Attorney Eric Anderson pointed out that the Special Recreation tax rate would increase 44% under the proposed levy.

The whole four cents will be levied.

That’s four cents of tax rate for every $100 of Assessed Valuation.

I remember being quite disappointed when the Illinois General Assembly decided not to limit the growth of the Special Recreation tax rate to the increase in inflation, as for the rest of the operating money for park districts and other local governments.

I requested how next year’s money was proposed to be spent and received the following from Park District Director Jason Herbster:

  • ADA Ramp – Grand Oaks Auditorium – $16,000
  • Lakewood Meadows Park – Playground Surface – $90,000
  • Lakewood Meadows Park – ADA Parking and pathways – $24,000
  • Della Park Accessible Loop Trial – $72,000
  • ADA Compliance Work – $30,000
  • VA ADA Parking at north shelter – $25,000
  • Administration Bathroom Updates – $15,000
  • Canterbury Playground – $100,000
  • Woodland Estates Court and Asphalt – $100,000

Don’t know if this surface under the zip line for kids at Lakewood Meadows Park is what is referenced above, but I predict that this park will be a destination for parents with younger children.

Also included in the Special Recreation Fund are:

  • Inclusion – $ 275,000
  • NISRA Contribution – $345,168
