In the recent developments associated with my ongoing reporting of a police raid of the licensed hemp processor, Woodstock Willy makes an appearance.
This update deals with the State’s recent motion to Quash subpoenas directed to various witnesses including one witness the State’s attorney wished to quash claiming the lake County Meg Director wasn’t even present and therefore had no information.
However, Attorney Robert Hanlon’s response to the motion and argument in court was both telling and amusing.
A few quotes form the Defendant’s response are worthy of taking note. “Relevance – The State’s Crystal Ball (or Woodstock Willy Prognostication)” and “Really, is ASA Bruce clairvoyant?”
Since Attorney Hanlon has not even written up his direct examinations of these ‘witnesses’, the State’s venture into the supernatural can only explain the State’s improvident motion.
At Monday’s argument, Hanlon commented about the Woodstock Willy comment as being illustrative of the guesswork taking place by the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Apparently, the State’s Attorney claimed that none of the Lake County MEG officers had body cameras and Hanlon introduced, for the judge to see, a photograph of two Lake County MEG officers with body worn cameras.
Hanlon also filed a motion to compel the testimony of a Lakemoor police officer that apparently signed up for a seminar after Hanlon informed ASA Bruce he intended to call that officer as a witness and the officer had filed an affidavit with the court he was unavailable due to a class, when it turned out the officer signed up for a seminar outside the scope of his job.
The Court granted Attorney Hanlon’s motion to compel the officer’s appearance and denied the State’s motion to quash the subpoenas.
As a result the State’s Motion to Quash went up in smoke.
