From Congressman Darin LaHood:

LaHood Launches Re-Election Bid to Continue Delivering for IL-16

Amid calls for a statewide run, LaHood reaffirms focus on current district, citing his work on tax, trade, and national security committees as critical in fighting for middle-class families

PEORIA, IL — Congressman Darin LaHood today announced his campaign for re-election to the U.S. House in the 2026 midterms.

Since 2023, LaHood has represented nearly 750,000 residents across 21 counties in central and northern Illinois.

“Throughout my career in public service, I’ve had the honor of representing hardworking families across Illinois.

” I’m proud of the results we’ve delivered—lowering taxes, standing up to foreign economic threats like China, securing historic wins for the middle-class and small businesses, and ensuring the voices and values of our communities are amplified in Washington.

“While I’m humbled and grateful for the encouragement to pursue statewide office in 2026, my focus remains on finishing the important work President Trump and House Republicans have promised the American people—to secure our nation, grow the economy, and advance the America First agenda.

“I am confident that our work both in Washington and throughout our district will continue to advance these priorities and deliver real results for the families, farmers, and job creators who call Illinois home, ” LaHood said.

As a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, LaHood has led efforts to make the Trump tax cuts permanent, reduce red tape for small businesses and farmers, and expand global markets for Illinois-made products.

On the House Intelligence Committee and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, he has become a leading voice on national security, cybersecurity, and combating CCP technologies from infiltrating America’s critical infrastructure.

Alongside his legislative work, LaHood leads one of the most responsive constituent service operations in Congress, helping veterans secure benefits, resolving issues with federal agencies, and delivering direct support to constituents in times of need.

He remains deeply engaged across the district through regular community visits and outreach events.

A former Vice-Chair and Finance Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, LaHood has been a driving force in electing Republicans nationwide and enters the 2026 cycle with over $6 million in his own reelection account.

A lifelong Illinoisan and former state and federal prosecutor, LaHood resides in Dunlap with his wife Kristen, where they raised their three sons, McKay, Lucas, and Teddy.
