From the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District:

Firefighters Contain Outdoor Fire Before It Spreads to Home

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 5:53 p.m., the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was dispatched to the 200 block of Barn Swallow Drive for a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived within minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residence.

Just prior to arrival by fire crews, a Woodstock Police officer arrived on scene and confirmed the rear deck of the home was on fire.

Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines to the back of the house and made a fast and effective attack, containing the fire to the deck and surrounding patio furniture.

While the fire was kept from entering the home, radiant heat damaged a large section of the vinyl siding on the rear of the structure.

The homeowners were not present at the time of the fire, which was reported by a neighbor who observed the smoke and flames.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

As summer continues, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District reminds residents to take extra precautions when grilling, especially on wooden decks.

Never leave a grill unattended, and always allow charcoal or coals to fully cool before leaving the area or disposing of them.

Grills should also be placed well away from the home, railings, or any overhanging structures.

A few simple steps can help prevent a serious fire.
