Riley Grade School District Cutting Taxes by 46%, a One-Year Cut to Spend Down Excessive Balance, Back Up the Next Year

The Riley Elementary School District was not required to publish a Black Box ad, but did so anyway.

The Board decided to publish the ad, even though it did not need to, to be completely transparent.

Superintendent Jason Grey said cutting the levy for one-year would bring the account balances down below the two-year level allowed by state law.

Now the district has about two and a half years of money in the bank.

The proposed 46% levy cut will bring that down to about two years, which seems to be allowed by state law.

The following year, however, the amount taxed will return to the normal level.
