This past Saturday, the current CTA President Dorval Carter trotted out the same argument for another huge subsidy:

The Daily Herald reported,

One worst-case scenario for the CTA would be ending 24-hour service, President Dorval Carter said.

But next year, the tax hikers won’t allow a referendum before they hike taxes.
