From the Salvation Army:

THE SALVATION ARMY WELCOMES NEW LEADERS IN MCHENRY COUNTY

Lt. Paul Kim and Lt. Gloria Park appointed to serve as officers leading The Salvation Army’s mission to serve those who need it most, when they need it most, in McHenry County

[CRYSTAL LAKE, ILLINOIS] The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Lieutenants Paul (Seonghyeon) Kim and Lt. Gloria (Yeyeong) Park as the new officers overseeing The Salvation Army Crystal Lake Corps, which serves communities throughout McHenry County.

Lieutenants Paul (Seonghyeon) Kim and Lt. Gloria (Yeyeong) Park

In their new roles, Lt. Kim and Lt. Park will lead The Salvation Army’s local programs that provide essential support to individuals and families facing crisis, helping them build strong and stable futures.

These services include

  • emergency rent and utility assistance,
  • food distribution,
  • school supplies,
  • Christmas gifts for children, and
  • personalized case management tailored to meet the specific needs of seniors, children, and families across the region.

“We are honored to join this wonderful community and continue The Salvation Army’s mission of meeting human needs in His name without discrimination,” said Lt. Paul Kim and Lt. Gloria Park. “Our hearts are open, and we are eager to walk alongside of our new neighbors in McHenry County with compassion, dignity, and service.”

Lt. Paul Kim brings a strong pastoral background, a heart for biblical teaching, and cross-cultural ministry experience. Originally from South Korea, he holds a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute and is completing his Master of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Lt. Gloria Park, who also graduated from Moody Bible Institute, holds a B.A. in Children and Family Ministry. She has ministered across cultures and age groups in South Korea, Argentina, and the United States. She is especially passionate about youth and intergenerational ministry, worship, and multiethnic inclusion. Their son, Ian, is the newest—and youngest—member of the Crystal Lake Corps family.

The lieutenants graduated from The Salvation Army College of Officer Training this past spring.

These appointments mark their first leadership roles of a Salvation Army corps, and they are entering with deep spiritual preparation, academic training, and a shared calling to serve.

The Salvation Army regularly rotates officers to new appointments across the country, allowing leaders to grow in their experience and share their gifts to serve the unique needs of new communities.

This transition is part of that long-standing tradition of mission-focused leadership development.

The Salvation Army expresses deep appreciation to former Crystal Lake corps officers, Captains Pablo and Nancy Rivera, for their remarkable impact.

Their ministry brought hope to the hurt, comfort to the weary, and critical resources to meet the needs of thousands of neighbors in McHenry County. Under their compassionate leadership, the Crystal Lake Corps serves more than 6,000 people annually, providing critical social services and responding with love and integrity to community needs.

The Riveras have begun new appointments to The Salvation Army in Belvidere, IL, where their spirit of service will continue to enrich the lives of others.

The Salvation Army continues its mission to serve those who need it most in McHenry County and welcomes the community to join in this next chapter under the leadership of Lt. Paul Kim and Gloria Parks. Learn more at salarmycl.org
