From the Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts:
Three-Vehicle Crash on Route 23 in Marengo
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 10:50 a.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to the 3800 block of North Route 23 in unincorporated Marengo for a reported motor vehicle collision with injuries.
First-arriving crews encountered a three-vehicle crash with moderate to heavy damage.

The vehicles were spread across approximately 1,200 feet of Route 23.

Emergency personnel initiated a rapid patient assessment and determined that eight individuals were involved.
Due to the number of occupants and initially unknown transport needs, the incident was upgraded to a working EMS response, prompting additional ambulances from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Harvard Fire Protection District, and Huntley Fire Protection District.

Ultimately, two patients from a dark-colored Tesla sedan were transported to the hospital with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.
Five individuals from a second passenger vehicle were evaluated but declined additional medical attention.
The male driver of a third vehicle, a truck, declined any evaluation.

Route 23 remained closed in both directions for over an hour while emergency crews worked at the scene.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is handling the crash investigation.
Any questions regarding the cause of the crash, citations, vehicle speeds, or seatbelt use should be directed to their office.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts would like to thank the Hampshire Fire Protection District for providing change of quarters coverage, as well as Boone County District 2 and Union Fire Protection District for handling additional calls during this incident. We also extend our appreciation to the Marengo Police Department and our dispatchers for their assistance and support throughout the response.
