Traumatic Injury Incident – Busse Road

On Friday, July 11, 2025, at 1:45 p.m., the Harvard Fire Protection District responded to the 500 block of Busse Road for a reported traumatic injury.

While en route, crews were advised that a horse had fallen onto an adult male.

The patient was not trapped but had sustained a serious leg injury.

Upon arrival, firefighters located the individual and began immediate care.

The exact circumstances surrounding how the incident occurred were not clear at the time of the response.

Given the nature of the injury and the need for advanced trauma care, a medical helicopter was requested.

The patient was transported to the helipad at Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center–Harvard and then airlifted to OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center in Rockford, for further treatment.

The Harvard Fire Protection District commends the work of responding crews for their quick actions and efficient care during the incident.

The district also appreciates the assistance of the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District and the Marengo Fire & Rescue District for responding to additional calls throughout the district during this time.
