Under income tax law prior to the signing of President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” one could deduct $10,000 in real estate taxes.
In 2016, there were 15,122 properties with property tax bill higher than $10,000. (Not all were homes, of course. See article below for details.)
The figure now, according to McHenry County Treasurer Donna Kurtz, is significantly higher.
“18,119 Residential Properties in McHenry County have property taxes over $10K for 2023,” she writes.
That’s almost 20% higher than in 2016, seven years ago.
