I don’t have the current year’s numbers, but former McHenry County Treasurer Glenda Miller had her IT people figure out how many taxpayers had real estate tax bills exceeding the $10,000 income tax deductible limit in 2016.

Here is her reply to my question:

“The number of 2016 tax bills over $10,000 is 15,122.”

Some were for business properties, but since property taxes are certainly higher now, a lot of McHenry County homeowners will have lower Federal and state income taxes next year because of the bill Congress just passed.

The Census Bureau reported 123,106 households in McHenry County in 2024.

82.6% were owner-occupied.
