From State Rep. Adam Niemerg:
Rep. Adam Niemerg: Bloated budget rammed through with little debate
Dieterich, IL – The Illinois House approved a $55 billion record spending plan at the last minute with little opportunity for debate.
The $55 billion bloated spending plan includes multiple tax increases that will impact working families.
“Illinois doesn’t have a revenue problem—it has a leadership and fiscal discipline problem,” Niemerg said.
“Since Governor J.B. Pritzker took office in 2019, his proposed budget has ballooned by nearly $17 billion.
“We keep setting new spending records year after year.
“The time for accountability is long overdue. Democrats in the General Assembly want to blame potential reductions in federal funding for our budget crisis.
“But let’s be clear: the federal government didn’t mandate $17 billion in new state spending—Illinois Democrats did that on their own and we are all paying the price for their bad decisions.”
Some of the wasteful spending in the budget includes:
- $21,000,000 for abortion programs
- $65,258,200 to promote electric vehicles
- $7,000 salary increase for legislators
- $28,500,000 for non-governmental organizations
- $39,250,000 for illegals
- $87,880,249 for DEI initiatives
“These numbers are just scratching the surface of the waste in this bloated budget,” Niemerg said.
“Instead of raising taxes and fees and blaming the federal government for our state’s poor policy decisions, we should be cutting these wasteful programs.
“We cannot and should not continue to use taxpayer dollars to promote a far-left political agenda any longer. Illinois residents deserve better.”
