Back when he was State Senator, Kirk Dillard led the effort that resulted in our RTA sales tax being tripled for McHenry County residents.

It went from one-quarter of one percent to three-quarters of one percent. One-quarter of one percent of that hike ended up in the pockets county government.

Now, having ascended to the chairmanship of the Regional Transportation Authority after failing to win the Republican nomination for Governor, Dillard is pumping hard for another big tax hike.’

And, he is spending big bucks on advertising to advance that cause.

From CBS comes the following:

“The ads cost between $500,000 and $750,000. CBS News Chicago asked RTA chairman Kirk Dillard if the ad is really worth it.

“’It is definitely worth it,’ Dillard said.

“‘Six thousand letters have been sent to state legislators, and it’s our duty to make sure the public, our riders, and those who don’t even use mass transit know that this crisis would impact their pocketbooks — as well as their lungs and lifestyle.’”

The cost per letter, assuming $750,000 was spent, is $125.
