Some of those praising President Donald Trump’s pardon of corrupt ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich do so on the grounds that there are many worse offenders who have gotten lower sentences.

When one considers the minimum sentence that former Alderman Ed Burke received and that others who seem deserving of prosecution have never been charged, maybe that argument holds some water.

“He went to jail because he challenged Madigan,” one friend says, defending the commutation and pardon.

But, maybe it’s fully in the Chicago tradition of “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”

I’m still critical of Trump’s action.
