Structure Fire – 687 Waters Edge Blvd
Crystal Lake, IL – CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — At approximately 1:06 p.m., Crystal Lake Fire Rescue (CLFR) was dispatched to 687 Waters Edge Blvd. for a reported structure fire.
At the time of the dispatch, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue personnel were actively operating at an earlier working fire in another area of the city.
As a result, mutual aid companies from the Carpentersville Fire Department, Marengo Fire Department, Cary Fire Protection District, West Dundee Fire Department, and a Crystal Lake Fire Rescue chief officer were the first to arrive.
Upon arrival, crews encountered a large multi-family residential building with smoke coming from the garage of the middle townhouse unit.
Chief 307 established command and upgraded the incident to a Working Fire assignment.
Firefighters deployed two hose lines and quickly brought the fire under control at 1:27 p.m.
Crews conducted primary searches of all five units within the building, and an all-clear was given.
The fire was confined to the unit of origin in the garage, with no fire extension or damage found in the adjoining residences.
Firefighters ventilated the affected home and completed minor overhaul operations to ensure there was no hidden fire extension.
The homeowners were inside the residence when the fire began.
They were alerted by the activation of their smoke alarms and the odor of smoke, allowing them to safely evacuate before
firefighters arrived.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Estimated loss to the property is $50,000.
The fire is being investigated by Crystal Lake Fire Rescue and Nunda Fire Investigators.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Additional agencies that assisted at the scene included the Algonquin Fire Department, Huntley Fire Protection District, McHenry Fire Protection District, Barrington Countryside and Wauconda..
