Banks can make a lot of money with pubic money sitting in their coffers.

School and library districts are making a fuss about the delay inn issuing Cook County taxes.

When I was McHenry County Treasurer three out of four years I sent real estate tax bills out in April, so they could be due on the statuary mandated June 1st.

Only during the quadrennial assessment year were they late.

My first year in office I got the cooperation of evert bank in the county to be a collection point, saving my office the processing time.

I allowed the banks to keep the money until checks I sent out each Friday were cashed.

Previously, there were only a couple of large distributions.

The practice now is to make distributions every two weeks.
