Attempted Murder
John Birk, Chief of Police of the McHenry Police Department, announced today the arrest of a subject in
connection with an incident that occurred at the Hampton Inn, 1555 S. IL Route 31, McHenry, Illinois.
COLIN M. FOSTER (age 28, DOB: 09/30/1997), McHenry Illinois, was taken into custody by the McHenry Police Department at the scene.
On Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at approximately 12:02 A.M., the McHenry Police Department responded to the Hampton Inn in McHenry for a reported disturbance.
The preliminary investigation determined Foster, unprovoked, suddenly attacked and stabbed a 48-year-old male multiple times with a knife.
Another subject, a 38-year-old male, was also attacked and battered by Foster, but he did not suffer any knife wounds.
There was not any connection between Foster and the victims.
All three were overnight guests at the hotel.
The victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois, for treatment. He
had suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
FOSTER was charged with:
- 1 Count of ATTEMPT MURDER – Class X Felony
- 2 Counts of AGGRAVATED BATTERY WITH GREAT BODILY HARM – Class 3 Felonies
Foster was transported to the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock, Illinois, to await court proceedings.
