From the Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department:
CLFRD Water Rescue
At 6:10 pm on Wednesday May 6, 2026 the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was dispatched for a possible boating accident on Crystal Lake.
Fire personnel arrived on scene within six minutes reporting two people in the water with the Lakewood Police Department near them.
Upon investigation, crews determined the incident was not a boating accident, but rather a sailboat that had capsized.
The occupants attempted to right the vessel but were unsuccessful.
Both individuals were wearing appropriate protective clothing and personal flotation devices, which prevented the situation from becoming a more serious emergency.
An Ambulance crew evaluated both occupants from being exposed to the cold water temperatures and both refused to be transported.
As a reminder, always take the weather and environmental conditions into consideration when participating in outdoor activities.
These two occupants took the appropriate precautions suitable for the conditions at the time, which can make the difference between a survivable situation or a tragic outcome.
