State Rep. Martin McLaughlin: Sunlight is the Best Disinfectant for Illinois
Lake Barrington, IL – State Representative Martin McLaughlin (R-Barrington Hills) released the following statement in regards to the State of Illinois’ current financial struggles, while raising concerns with millions of dollars of Illinois taxpayer money being distributed to unproven state programs and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
“When I first ran for office, I said ‘let’s fix our state’…After serving in Springfield, I’ve realized something: the state’s already been ‘fixed’—just not for the taxpayers.
“It’s a rigged game.
“Too much power, too much money, and a supermajority that answers to neither.
“The result?
“Sky-high costs for families and just enough ‘accountability’ to make headlines, but never real change.
“We’ve seen this story before.
“Billions lost in fraud at the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES)—and yet, where are the prosecutions?
“Attorney General Kwame Raoul promised accountability. Illinois is still waiting.
“Now, as massive fraud scandals unravel in other states—from California’s high-speed rail boondoggle to Minnesota’s abuse of public funds—there’s finally talk of serious oversight coming to Illinois.
“Good.
“It’s long overdue.
“Maybe investigators will take a closer look at the hundreds of millions funneled through questionable programs and NGOs.
“Maybe they’ll knock on the doors of ‘businesses’ that turn out to be little more than P.O. boxes.
“That’s when things get interesting. Illinois doesn’t need more excuses. It needs exposure.
“Because one thing is still true: bright light is the best disinfectant. Let the sunshine in.”
