Structure Fire – McHenry

On March 24, 2026, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to a reported structure fire in the 1200 block of N. Chapel Hill Rd. in unincorporated McHenry County.

Crews arrived within two minutes and found a single-family dwelling with fire showing from a front window.

Four occupants escaped the home as fire crews arrived on the scene.

Crews immediately began an aggressive fire attack and searched the residence for any additional victims.

The fire was brought under control in less than ten minutes.

Firefighters contained the fire to the living room and kitchen, with extensive smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the residence.

Two occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No firefighters were injured during the incident, and the home remains uninhabitable.

The MTFPD received assistance, either on scene or at our fire stations, from the Spring Grove, Fox Lake, Wonder Lake, Round Lake, Richmond, Cary, Crystal Lake, Nunda, Wauconda, and Antioch Fire Departments, along with the Salvation Army Canteen and the American Red Cross.

The fire is currently under investigation by the MTFPD and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
