Crystal Lake Police Make Criminal Damage to Property Arrest

On February 12, 2026, at approximately 11:28 pm, the Crystal Lake Police Department responded to the 600 block of Tomahawk Lane for a reported crash involving a pickup truck into a residence.

Upon arrival, officers observed extensive damage to the residence.

At the time of the incident, no one was inside the residence.

The offending driver, later identified as Gregory Bruning (60), Round Lake Beach, drove the pickup truck into the residence several times and fled the area prior to officers arriving.

Information was obtained during the investigation that Mr. Bruning also damaged property at a business in the 300 block of Commerce Drive

.As a result of the investigation, Mr. Bruning was located in Round Lake and taken into custody.

Mr. Bruning was charged with the following offenses:

  • Criminal Damage to Property – Class 3
  • Criminal Damage to Property – Class 4
  • Criminal Trespass to Residence – Class A
  • Reckless Driving – Class A
  • Fail to Give Information upon Damaging Property – Class A
  • Driving While License Suspended – Class A

The total approximate value for all the damage caused during this incident is $135,000.

Mr. Bruning sustained a minor injury caused by his actions during the incident. Mr. Bruning was transported to the McHenry County Jail.
