Child Sexual Abuse Materials Arrest
The Huntley Police Department announces the arrest of John T. Ruffalo (20 years old) of the 10800 block of Grand Canyon Ave, Huntley, IL, on 17 counts of possession and distribution of child sexual abuse materials.
In July 2025, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force provided the Huntley Police Department with information that was obtained from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children data system regarding a Huntley-based Internet Protocol address that was attempting to share potential child sexual abuse materials for download via a cloud-based client-server service.
Upon receiving this information, the Huntley Police Department’s Investigations Division conducted an investigation that led to the identification of the offender, John T. Ruffolo.
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Huntley Police Detectives and Illinois Attorney General Investigators, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police and Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 Enzo, served a search warrant at a residence in the 10800 block of Grand Canyon Avenue where John T. Ruffolo resides.
Ruffolo agreed to come to the Police Department while Huntley Police Department Detectives and Illinois Attorney General Investigators completed an examination and analysis of several seized electronic devices.
He was subsequently taken into custody based on evidence gained during the search.
John T. Ruffolo was charged with
- 5 counts of Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (Class X Felony),
- 10 counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials – Victim under 13 years of age (Class 2 Felony), and
- 2 counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials – Victim under 18 years of age (Class 3 Felony).
He was transported to McHenry County Jail pending a detention hearing.
