It appears urban renewal is possible due to a devastating fire of two buildings on Riverside Drive
From the McHenry Fire Protection District:
On January 18, 2026, at approximately 12:07 p.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD)
was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1309 N. Riverside Drive in McHenry.

Crews arrived within three minutes and encountered heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building.

additional resources to the scene and backfilled MTFPD stations.
