Arrest – Arson and Criminal Damage to Property
On December 31st, 2025, at approximately 7:22 p.m., Woodstock Police Officers were dispatched to the Walmart(1275 Lake Ave.) in regard to the report of a structure fire.
On arrival, Woodstock PD Officers worked with Walmart personnel in evacuating the building; this was being completed with the building’s fire suppression system still dispensing water.
While evacuating citizens, a Walmart employee provided Officers with a witness statement as well as other evidence of the incident, including security camera footage.
Based off the physical description of the suspect and the digital evidence, the WPD Investigations Division was able to develop a person of interest.
The Detectives located the subject without incident.
Probable cause for an arrest was achieved and upon conferring with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, Woodstock Police Department Investigators charged Adilyn Monette, 21, with Arson and Criminal Damage to Property.
Monette continues to be detained at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility and awaits a Rights Court hearing.

From the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District
On Wednesday, December 31, at 7:22 p.m., the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was dispatched to 1275 Lake Avenue for reports of a fire inside the Walmart store.

Firefighters arrived to find the store being evacuated.
Employees advised crews that there had been an active fire inside the building.
Firefighters entered the store to investigate and located the fire near the rear of the store, which had already been extinguished by the building’s automatic sprinkler system.
Fire crews remained on scene for more than two hours monitoring conditions and assisting with smoke removal. The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District airboat was requested to assist with ventilating smoke from the structure.
Due to smoke damage throughout the store, the Walmart was closed for the remainder of the evening. No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department. Any additional questions regarding the investigation should be directed to their office.
