The replacement for State Senator Don DeWitte will be a woman.
There are two women running for the GOP nomination, one of whom will face off against a female Democrat.
One of the Republican women, Danielle Penman, spoke to the GOP Party’s Executive Committee at its December meeting.

She brought literature with her, one side of which can be seen below:

From the candidate:
Hello Cal,
Thank you for including information about me in your blog. I have included a summary about myself below. I also highlighted some of my key issues. Some of the information is available on my website. Feel free to reach out if you have additional questions.
Danielle Penman’s life is rooted in service, community, and a steadfast belief in doing what’s right. A Chicago native who has proudly called St. Charles home for 23 years, Danielle and her husband of 27 years have raised their two sons in the heart of the Fox Valley, a community they deeply cherish.
With nearly 30 years in healthcare and more than 25 years as a dedicated nurse, Danielle has built a career defined by compassion, integrity, and hands-on leadership. She has stood beside patients and families in their most vulnerable moments, advocated for frontline professionals, and worked to strengthen the systems that support quality care. Her experience has given her a clear understanding of the challenges people face and the practical solutions that can make a real difference.
Danielle’s commitment to service extends far beyond healthcare. She has been a strong advocate for parents, students, teachers, and taxpayers through years of involvement in her local school district. Whether serving on her sons’ elementary school PTO, supporting the Boosters Club, or contributing to the St. Charles Education Foundation, Danielle has consistently stepped up to strengthen local education and support the next generation.
Across every chapter of her life, Danielle has led with empathy, accountability, and a deep commitment to serving others. These are the values that have guided her work and the values she brings to her campaign for Illinois State Senator in the 33rd District.
Her volunteerism reflects a strong sense of community responsibility. Danielle has served as a volunteer camp nurse for the JDDC Girl Scouts summer camp and supports organizations that uplift families and individuals, including Kayla’s Hope, Jane’s Room Foundation, Baby Spirit Foundation, Together At Peace, the Salvation Army food bank, and Lazarus House. She is also a proud supporter of law enforcement at both the local and state levels.
Danielle has been an active member of the Republican Party in St. Charles and Kane County for several years. She serves as an Assistant Precinct Committeeperson, is a member of the Kane County GOP fundraising committee, and has assisted multiple candidates with their election races.
