Let it not be said that the McHenry County Board doesn’t think ahead.
The Administrative Services Committee’s next meeting has future compensation on its agenda.
Members are now paid $21,000 a year, plus fringe benefits, which include health insurance, which for a member with dependents can almost double their compensation.
Besides setting up future members for annual salary hikes equal in percentage terms to those afforded all those on public pensions–3% per year–a decision will be made what members taking office in 2028 will earn in salary,
When the County Board’s membership ws cut from 24 to 18, I predicted hefty salary hikes.
After all, the remaining 18 membership would argue they were forced to do the work of 24.
Starting with those elected in 2028, free health insurance would no longer be available under the proposed resolution.
I see that move as another rationale for hefty pay hikes.
