From the State’s Attorney:
COURT GRANTS STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE’S PETITION TO DETAIN MAN FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND RECKLESS DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announced that today the Honorable Judge Justin Hansen granted the State’s motion to deny pretrial release for Christopher Bolton, 24, of Streamwood, Illinois.

Bolton appeared in Initial Appearance Court on November 24, 2025, charged with Aggravated Assault, a class 3 felony, and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, a class 4 felony.
Evidence was presented in court this afternoon that, on or about March 23, 2024,
Bolton was the passenger in a vehicle that was traveling on West Main Street in Cary at which time, the vehicle he was riding in drove around another vehicle, traveling into oncoming traffic.
When stopped at a red light, the other vehicle drove past Bolton’s vehicle, yelling for the vehicle that Bolton was in to slow down.
In response, the vehicle Bolton was in struck the other vehicle from behind and drove off the road, attempting to drive around the other vehicle.
At that time, Bolton fired three rounds from a firearm registered to him from inside the vehicle.
The vehicle Bolton was in then entered the roadway, striking the other vehicle causing it to crash.
At the hearing on the State’s Petition to Deny Pretrial Release, Judge Hansen found that there were no conditions or combinations of conditions that the court could impose to keep the community safe.
Bolton’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 2, 2025, in courtroom 304.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
