One used to be able to see a couple of buffalo on the northeast corner of Route 176 and Valley View Roa

They are gone now.

But hidden away in the tens of thousands of acres owned by the McHenry County Conservation District at Pleasant Valley is a small herd of bison not owned by MCCD, but now allowed on thirty acres the land for a fifteen-year period..

In Will County there is a much larger herd at the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.

I’m hoping that the Conservation District will move quickly to emulate the Midewin site.

“We don’t want people in here,” one employee points out in the December 15, 2021, YouTube above, so as not to “stress” the animals.

But he says he hopes that will be possible in the future.

I hope that comes soon.

Why could not there be an observation platform with telescopes as exists in Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Florida?
