It’s the end of the month, so the Friday food distribution at The Chapel’s McHenry south end of Route 31 location is expected to have well over one hundred families seeking help.

The flag indicating people may line up in The Chapel’s parking lot goes up at 1:30. Distribution goes on until 4, but late arrivals will probably receive less than those coming early.

And, with SNAP benefits not being paid because enough Senate Democrats have not voted for a new spending authority, there may be more than the highest number (142) I have heard from our leader.

We collect food from several Jewel stores and Crystal Lake’s Walmart, plus received shipments from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Healthy “Factor” meals have been available the past several weeks.

Those interested in helping prepare the boxes for people should arrive by one o’clock for a meeting at which availability of various types of food (meat, canned goods, fruit veggies, deli goods, snacks, deserts and bread) is outlined.

Cooperating with The Chapel is the First Church of Crystal Lake, which started this food distribution some twenty years ago.
