[Since County Board members will gather November 6th at 8:30 AM to attend a Finance Committee meeting to discuss the tax levy, contacting members before then would make sense.]
Dear McHenry County Board Member,
You promised that if we passed the Mental Health sales tax increase last year that our PROPERTY TAXES would be reduced.
But here you are again asking for an increase in property taxes. If you do this it means that you lied last year. As a McHenry County resident, I am deeply disappointed and angered by the proposed FY26 budget “lookback” that would recapture the $10.5 million tax levy shifted away from the Mental Health Board last year.
To rebuild that trust, I urgently call on you to:
- Vote NO on the lookback provision at the full board vote—stand firm against this voter betrayal.
- Enforce real 3% department-specific cuts (no CPI padding, using new growth to close the $680,000 gap) for true accountability.
- Secure at least $3 million in abatements through efficiencies like Clerk’s office automation and targeted reductions, safeguarding services without tax hikes.
- Publicly recommit to the voter promise of tax relief—transparency demands no less.
Sincerely,
