From a Friend of McHenry County Blog:

Gubernatorial hopeful James Mendrick pauses politics

I was at an event that Sheriff James Mendrick was at on October 24 and he says he is pausing politics until after the funeral of Darren Bailey’s son, daughter-in-law, and two grandkids.

He was supposed to give a political speech but did not due to circumstances.

Instead, he extended his condolences and explained he was pausing politics and that was it.

This act was classy and gained respect from the audience.

Aaron Del Mar was there too and publicly thanked Mendrick for calling him immediately after the crash that took four young lives.

Del Mar was definitely shaken up.

I have never seen him look like that.

Del Mar says Bailey may or may not run, and that whatever Bailey chooses is fine with him.

Ted Dabrowski was there too but I got the sense people were not into him.

It just feels like he lacks passion.

He is dry both in tone and content.

Even though Dabrowski leads the field in fundraising, money can not make one appear passionate.

I suggested many months ago that Dabrowski should try running for comptroller or treasurer instead of governor but he did not listen.

Max Solomon was there briefly but did not speak.

He was not listed in the program.

I don’t know if this was the party playing favorites or if there was a more benign explanation.

My guess is it was the party putting their thumbs on the scale.

Joe Severino was not there.

It is my understanding that many Republican chapters refuse to have Severino at their events due to his conduct.
