Heard a story from my friend Marty Walter about Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley’s being arrested in Cary for speeding on Route 14.

This was way back when there were magistrates.

Cary’s was oil dealer Charles Schreiber.

Daley had been at the Crystal Lake Country Club and the way back to Chicago wasn’t the tollway, but Route 14–the way my family came to Crystal Lake in 1958.

Schreiber refused to fine the Mayor, making the Cary Policeman none too happy.
