From Darin Bailey:

Darren Bailey calls on JB Pritzker to put safety above politics

Louisville, IL — Darren Bailey says the continued refusal of Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to work with federal law enforcement agents is putting lives at risk and making the situation more dangerous than it needs to be.

Bailey is issuing the following statement:

“What happened this weekend in Chicago is absolutely unconscionable. Federal agents were attacked, surrounded, and pleading for help, and instead of responding immediately to protect them, Chicago police officers were reportedly ordered to stand down. What’s worse, CPD is now refusing to acknowledge the “stand down” order that put Federal agents and the general public at risk.

These reports represent a stunning failure of leadership and a dangerous politicization of law enforcement. Every officer in uniform, whether federal, state, or local, deserves to know that backup will come when they call for help. No political agenda should ever stand in the way of protecting those who protect us.

The refusal or delay to assist federal agents under threat is not only shameful, it’s reckless. It sends a message that political considerations take precedence over public safety. That cannot happen in any city, or a state, that wants to restore order and protect its citizens.

When I’m governor, politics will never dictate policing. We will back the blue, enforce the law without fear or favor, and ensure that every officer in every jurisdiction knows that Illinois stands with them.

It’s time to bring accountability, integrity, and common sense back to law enforcement leadership in this state
