Crystal Lake Police Firearm Arrest
Crystal Lake, IL – On Friday, September 26, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Detectives with the Crystal Lake Police Department were conducting an interview of a subject in the 1-100 block of McHenry Avenue reference a theft report.
During the course of the interview, Detectives were alerted to the presence of a firearm in the home.

Police immediately took control of the weapon and detained the male subject.
It has been reported that the firearm was recovered by police in some bushes along the Crystal Lake Public Library.
This is inaccurate and the firearm was recovered by police from the residence.
Upon review of the evidence the McHenry County States Attorney’s office approved charges against the male, later identified as Robert J Walker (50) of Oakwood Hills including:
- 720 ILCS 5/24-1.1 – Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony)
- 720 ILCS 5/24-1(A)(10) – Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon in a Public Place (Class 3 Felony)
- 430 ILCS 65/2(A)(1) – Possession of a Weapon without a FOID Card (Class 3 Felony)
This incident involved an “on view arrest.”
At the time the weapon was located, the subject was immediately placed into custody.
There were no threats made involving the possession of the firearm.
There was no need to alert nearby schools, library or residents because there was no danger to them.
Police were present, had possession of the weapon and the subject was in custody.
This event remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
