I wouldn’t normally be publishing anything about a race for State Representative in the southernmost district in Illinois.
But those press release–with accompanying death threat–deserves wide distribution.
From GOP State Rep. candidate Joe DeBose:
Joe DeBose: Death threats won’t keep him from continuing to run in the 118th District
Marion, IL — Earlier this week, Joe DeBose announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 118th and in the comment section of a story about his announcement online, a person made what is clearly a death threat against him.
A screen shot of the post is attached. DeBose said he will not back down and will continue to seek election in the 118th District. He is issuing the following statement:

“I want to make something very clear: I will not be intimidated, and I will not back down.
“Less than 24 hours after announcing my campaign, I’ve already received threats—even one calling for violence against me.
“This is not the first time, and it won’t be the last. I’m used to it, and I’m ready for this fight.
“But let me be clear: this filth doesn’t shake me, it fuels me.
“It reminds me of the evil plaguing Illinois and our nation, and why what I’m doing is so important. It reminds me that God has given me talents and a light that I must shine into the darkness. As John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
“I am running to work and fight for Southern Illinois families who have been forgotten, ignored, and taxed to death. I don’t need a job or a title—I’ve built a business and can provide for my family. I’m in this fight because I want to build a better environment for all families to live, work, and thrive here at home.
“Like Charlie Kirk, who was a good man, I will not return hate with hate. If you don’t like me, I’ll still pray for you, and I’ll still be willing to have a respectful conversation. But I am strong in my convictions, unshakable in my faith, and unapologetic in my love for our country.
“I will never shy away from my beliefs, no matter the audience or the moment. My commitment is simple: I will stand with the people of Southern Illinois every single day. I will fight for your families, your freedoms, and your future with courage, with faith, and with everything I have. And through it all, I will shine my light—because darkness only grows when good people stay silent.”
